As the 60's were ending and the 70's were beginning, many of the singers who did lounge and cocktail music wanted to try to stay relevant. They covered popular songs of the day to try to be cool and hip for a new crowd. I think the results can be quite enjoyable. For example, I really dig hearing Peggy Lee cover Everyday People.
